Careers in Leadership
Lieutenant General H.R. McMaster

Lieutenant General H.R. McMaster is a retired three-star general in the United States Army, author, historian, and former National Security Advisor to the President of the United States.

General McMaster served in the U.S. Army for 34 years, leading soldiers in conflicts including the Gulf War, Iraq, and Afghanistan. He became widely respected for his leadership on the battlefield and for studying how lessons from history can help leaders make better decisions.

In 2017, General McMaster was appointed the 26th U.S. National Security Advisor, where he advised the President on some of the most important national security and foreign-policy challenges facing the United States.

Today, he is a senior fellow at Stanford University's Hoover Institution and teaches students about leadership, history, international affairs, and national security. He is also the author of several books, including Dereliction of Duty and At War with Ourselves.

Throughout his career, General McMaster has emphasized the importance of leadership, character, critical thinking, learning from history, and having the courage to make difficult decisions.

Students will have a unique opportunity to hear from someone who has experienced leadership at the highest levels of both the U.S. military and the White House.
