Dr. Marta Concheiro-Guisan is a forensic toxicologist, pharmacist, researcher, and educator whose work helps scientists understand how drugs and other substances can be detected and interpreted in the human body. She is an Associate Professor of Toxicology at John Jay College of Criminal Justice, CUNY, where she also serves as Program Director of the Master of Science in Forensic Science program. Originally trained in Spain, Dr. Concheiro-Guisan earned both her Pharm.D. and Ph.D. in Forensic Toxicology from the University of Santiago de Compostela. Her doctoral research focused on advanced laboratory methods for identifying amphetamines and other illicit drugs in biological samples. She later completed postdoctoral research with the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) in Baltimore before continuing her career in forensic toxicology and higher education. John Jay College
At John Jay, her work combines research, teaching, and real-world forensic science, helping students understand how toxicology can be used in crime laboratories, medical examiner offices, public safety, and the legal system. The graduate program she directs includes areas such as forensic toxicology, criminalistics, and molecular biology, giving future forensic scientists hands-on preparation for careers where science and law intersect. Through her work, Dr. Concheiro-Guisan shows students how chemistry, biology, medicine, and technology can come together to answer difficult questions—and how forensic scientists can use evidence to help uncover the truth.
