Join Dr. Josh Bonde for a thoughtful Edutainment Learning conversation exploring the history and legacy of Stewart Indian School in Carson City, Nevada.
Operating from 1890 to 1980, Stewart was part of a federal boarding school system created to assimilate Native American children. Students will learn about the separation of children from their families, efforts to suppress Native languages and traditions, and how experiences at the school changed over time.
Through this discussion, we’ll explore the resilience of Native communities, the importance of preserving students’ and families’ stories, and what this history teaches us about identity, education, and respect for different cultures.
Students will have the opportunity to ask questions and consider how learning about the past can help us build a more understanding future.
